Approximate Seed Quantity: 10
Now for something a little different. Hailing from Mexico this great little fruit is grown much like a tomato and has an indeterminate branching habit. Makes a great salsa and is used in many Mexican recipes. The fruit are the size of a large cherry tomato with a paper like husk covering them. When ripe the husk turns brown and breaks down. Annual. - Sow January to May
- Seed spacing: 2cm in trays or 2 to a cell in modules
- Lightly cover with fine compost and gently water
- Cover to retain humidity and remove cover once seedlings emerge
- Temperature requirement: 18°C plus
- When large enough to handle transplant to 7cm pots and if growing outside gradually harden off and transplant when all danger of frost has passed.
- Plant deep up the stem which will then produce more roots to feed the plant
- Days to maturity: 60-80 days
- Harvest regularly to encourage more fruit all the way through to first frost
- Light: Full sun
- Can be left to sprawl or trained to climb which makes harvesting easier
- At least two to four plants approximately 60cm apart are required to ensure fruit
- Must be kept evenly damp to prevent blossom end rot
- Keep weed free
- Once fruiting feed every 14 days with a tomato type fertilizer
