No, not the spider plant we all had in our bathrooms at one time! This is a strongly scented plant of upright nature from South America. Displays a mix of white, pink or mauve flower which produces exceptionally long stamens protruding from the large flower heads. • Can be tricky to germinate but worth the effort, needs warmth to thrive once established
• Chill the seed for 5-7 days in a fridge prior to sowing
• Sow in fine well drained seed compost, barely covering the seed
• Sow 4-5 weeks before your last expected frost
• Temperature fluctuations aid germination. Keep at 23-26°C during the day and at 15-18°C during the night
• Days to germination: 10-14 days given the correct conditions
• Once the first true leaves have formed prick out and grow on in cooler conditions
• Unless under glass do not plant out until the weather and soil has warmed
• Protect from slugs and snails until well established
